Just “Role” With It

Welcome! I am a versatile professional thriving in four main roles: Instructional Designer, Graphic Designer, Fine Artist, and Educator. With a unique blend of creativity, technical expertise, and a passion for educating, I adapt and excel in each field. Explore my work in the portfolio section to see how I bring innovative solutions, captivating visuals, artistic expression, and educational excellence to every project.

  • Innovator, Collaborator, Inclusivity, and Accessibility Advocate

As an Instructional Designer I primarily design courses within the LMS Canvas, ensuring the alignment of learning outcomes, activities, and assessments. By applying accessibility standards and supporting continuous professional improvement, I make sure the courses I design are both engaging and inclusive. I excel in bridging the gap between faculty and technology to enhance the learning experience. My innovative approach and collaborative spirit make me an ambassador of service excellence and educational integrity.

  • Creative Problem Solver and Clear Communicator

In my Graphic Design experiences, I interpret and transform client design requests into visually stunning and effective digital layouts, graphics, and illustrations. Using the Adobe Creative Suite, I bring a wide range of media to life for both print and web platforms. My creative problem-solving skills and ability to communicate effectively ensure that each project meets the unique needs of my clients. This role highlights my adaptability and proficiency in creating compelling visual content that engages and informs audiences.

  • Experimenter, Mixed Media Embracer, Process Lover

My current body of work utilizes a combination of digital and traditional processes to bring my surreal mixed media visions to life. Inspired by elements of the landscape around me, I begin my artwork by documenting surrounding scenes. I then take the documented product and transform familiar imagery into the unfamiliar through a variety of processes. Process frequently dictates the direction of my next step, as pixels, poured paint, and vinyl are woven together in vivid collages.

  • Curriculum Developer, Motivator, and Student Assessment Expert

With extensive experience in education, I have honed my ability to engage and inspire students across various age groups and educational settings. Age ranges include working with students in:

    • Higher Education

      • Current Adjunct Instructor of Art at Saint Charles Community College, MO;

      • previously Assistant Professor of Art at Olney Central College, IL.

    • K-12 Population

      • Substitute Teacher,

      • Paraprofessional for students with emotional and behavioral disturbances, and

      • various art summer camps for elementary and junior high students.

My responsibilities ranged from curriculum development to classroom management and student assessment. My goal as an educator is to foster a positive learning environment and implement effective behavioral techniques in order to encourage student success!z

Meet Heather,

the design

G.O.A.T*

Growing up, I was always reaching for something to create with - be it beads, stickers, or even markers on the wall. I have based my career upon creativity and making - as an undergraduate and graduate art student, I majored in painting and studio art respectively.

Once I graduated from graduate school in 2015, my path in life began leading me into the education field - from substitute teaching, to paraprofessional, to Assistant Art Professor at a rural community college. During my time as a professor, I designed and built my own courses in the LMS Canvas, and through that experience I was introduced to the field of instructional design.

When I’m not working, you will find me in my art studio or trying new things in the world around me. I will rarely pass up an opportunity to practice goat yoga, learn something new, or talk about my cats!
